Teen of the Year Illinois Elks Association 2019 Winner was sponsored by our Oglesby Lodge!

Lisa Fultz, Teen of the Month Lodge Chair, is shown with Exulted Ruler Ken Ficek presenting a plaque to Devin Soldati. Devin is a graduate of Hall High School. Devin who is sponsored by our Oglesby Lodge was selected as Teen of the Year by the Illinois Elks Association. Devin was also valedictorian of his high school class as well as achieving Illinois State honors in track. Devin received a check for $1000 for being selected as Teen of the Year.

Oglesby Elks Announces the Oglesby and the Elks Great Northwest District Teens of the Year.

The Oglesby Elks announce their 2019/2020 Teens of the Year, Molly Boyd and Samuel Maschmann. Molly and Samuel were also awarded the Elks Great Northwest Teens of the Year this year.

Molly, a senior at Putnam County High School, is the daughter of Helen Lenkailis and Michael Boyd. She is currently 5th in her class. She has been on the high honor roll all 4 years and in the National Honor Society since her sophomore. Molly is currently the Secretary for the National Honor Society as a senior.

She has been in Volleyball and basketball all 4 years. Molly has been All-Conference Academics for both sports since her freshman year. Molly was also a co-captain in basketball her senior year. She was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for track her junior year. Molly also played volleyball her freshman year.

Molly was in band, concert band and pep band all 4 years. She participated in musicals her sophomore and senior years.

She was the Secretary for her class her freshman, sophomore, and senior years. Molly was the class Treasurer her junior year. She has been in FFA since her freshman year. As a sophomore, she was a parliamentarian for FFA. She has been the Vice-President since her junior year for FFA. Molly has been in Interact all 4 years where she was the Vice-President her junior year and President her senior year. She was in P.A.C.C her senior year. Molly has been in 4-H all 4 years. She was Secretary her freshman and sophomore years, Vice-President her junior year and President her senior year. Molly was the 4-H Federation treasurer her senior year. She was also the Putnam County 4-H Ambassador her junior and senior years.

Molly volunteered for 20 Miles an Hour her sophomore and junior years. She helped with the Youth Basketball Camp her freshman through junior years. Since her freshman year, Molly has volunteered at the Trick or Treat Canned Food Drive. She has helped with bingo at Spring Valley Nursing home since her freshman year. Since her freshman year, Molly has been helping with blood drives. She has also been helping with junior track meets since her freshman year. 

Molly enjoys her free time but enjoys working on her 4-H projects as well.  She likes attending the FFA conferences and conventions and the new people she meets.

Samuel Maschmann, a senior at St. Bede Academy, is the son of Scott and Jennifer Maschmann of Peru. Samuel is currently 3rd in his class and is an Illinois Scholar. He has also been busy with football, Scholastic Bowl and the Bass Fishing Club all 4 years. He has also been on the honor roll his freshman through junior years.

Samuel has been active in wrestling his sophomore through senior year. He was in choir as a freshman. Samuel was in the Venturing Club during his freshman and sophomore years and then a Student Ambassador his junior and senior years.

He has been the Co-Captain of the Scholastic Bowl team these last 2 years and his team has won the regional championship all 4 years. Samuel received the Math Award his freshman and junior years. As a sophomore he was given the Spanish and World History Awards. His Bass Fishing club has competed in the regional championship. As a junior and senior Samuel competed on the WYSE team and won 3rd place in English individually while the team won the Team Championship in the regionals and sectionals.

Samuel has volunteered to help at the Youth football camp all 4 years. He was also a counselor at the Echo Bluffs camp his freshman and sophomore years.

After high school, Samuel plans to attend a 4 year university to study computer science and engineering. After college he would like to find a job as a software engineer.
